From the humble beginning in 1961, COSCO Group (COSCO)
established itself as one of the largest shipping companies in the
world. On the 1st October 1980, the first Sino-Australian Joint
Venture was established by forming the Five Star Shipping &
Agency Company Pty Ltd. This established a solid foundation for
cosco's business in Australia. Ever since its inception, the Australian
operations were considered very important and the company paid careful
attention to them. With the continuous expansion of business, COSCO
Group established a subsidiary, COSCO Oceania Pty Ltd on the 27th
October 1995. COSCO Oceania Pty Ltd is responsible for the administration
of all the COSCO local subsidiaries, research & development,
investment and asset management.
COSCO now owns over 500 vessels
of most types & sizes. In addition, COSCO has set up branches
in 39 countries and regions, operating shipping services that call
at more than 1,200 ports in 150 countries. COSCO Container Lines
owns a fleet of the most advanced container vessels in the world.
This fleet has been substantially increasing in size each year.
COSCO is extending its services widely throughout the world. Currently,
COSCO operates two fixed-day, weekly container services into Australia,
one from Shanghai / Huangpu / Hong Kong and the other from Japan
/ Korea / Kaohsiung. From New Zealand, COSCO operates a weekly service
to Japan / Korea / Hong Kong / Keelung.
In the Oceania Region, the business scope of COSCO Oceania
Pty Ltd and its subsidiaries is focused mainly on container
and bulk cargo agency service. Other activities include vessel chartering,
freight forwarding, technical support & services, spare parts
& materials provision, vessel repair & maintenance,container
repairs and storage.
